Giorgos Vekios was born in 1952.He is married and has one daughter. His family comes from a wine-producing area (Koropi- Mesogeia Attikis), and he began working in wine-making with his father since he was 15 years old.
He studied oenology in the Oenology Institute of Bordeaux (graduated in 1975).During his studies and after them he worked with wine-makers in the area. He returned in Greece in 1977 and worked until 1993 in the country's biggest wine-making industries (Kampas, Botrys, Mpoutaris) being responsible for the production of well known wines (Kava Kampa, Chateau Matsa, Lac des Roches). Today he works as a freelancing partner with wine-makers. He produces his own wine, Lioklima wich comes in two types white and red.
For a decade he was a member of the Greek Oenologist's Union Administrative Council (being the Union's Secretary among other positions). He is co-editor of the scientific magazine Oenology - Technology & Science. He has published many articles in magazines and newspapers and he has a permanent column in a newspaper
He has also co-written a book entitled The book of Wine, a book for people who love wine.
